Weatherproof Enclosure

System integrators and others working with enclosures will appreciate the difficulties of outdoor installations. Besides cooling concerns, non-temperature related issues from exposure to weather need to be overcome. One company that is addressing this for displays has come out with a line of outdoor protective enclosures specifically for displays.

These units are said to be sealed against moisture and water ingress, in a word: rainproof. They also state that the front of the unit is shatterproof and can be hit with a hammer without damaging an enclosed display.

The Right Use of Enclosure Heaters

Enclosure heaters are an important segment of the Seifert accessories program and form part of our thermal management solutions. Temperature differences in enclosures, mostly in outdoor applications, often result in humidity and condensation which may cause function failures and corrosion.

The use of the appropriate heating unit for your enclosure will eliminate these problems. Fan heaters distribute the internal warm air equally throughout the control enclosure. PTC heaters are compact in size, have a wider voltage range and the heating power adjusts in relation to the ambient temperature, resulting in better efficiency.

Also recall that if you install a combination of filter fan / exhaust filter in the same enclosure, the filter fan should always be placed in the lower third of the enclosure and the exhaust filter in the upper part of the enclosure preventing heat pockets.

Cooling Water Treatment Remote Monitoring Stations

A leading manufacturer needed to cool their remote monitoring and control panel products. This product line lets water treatment plants monitor and control their pump stations from any device and get real-time alerts via text, email, or phone call. Enclosures housing the electronics and controls need to be kept in a defined temperature range while exposed to outdoor temperatures. Progressive air conditioners were selected and provided 5,100 BTU/hr of cooling capacity keeping the enclosed equipment within operating temperature parameters.
